How do i make a NON-ceiling based light pendant?!

I have what I think should be an easy task, but I am unsure how to go about it. i just want to place a pendant to the underside of the exposed structure. I have opened the pendant light family, and done a 'save as'. Now, what steps do I take to make it "non" ceiling based !? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE HELp! :banghead:

File > New > Family > Pick a NON Ceiling Hosted Template. Copy and paste the Geometry in to that new File.

    Save-As wont do it.

There is another workaround for it, but its more steps. Save-As does not have a path that ends in that component being unhosted.

Okay, but I don't see a specific "Non-Ceiling Hosted template" , can i assume this one that says "electrical fixture' is non-ceiling based!? Thanks again in advance

Nope. No Assumptions. If you start a new family, and there is an object in it called CEILING, its Ceiling Hosted. If there is an object called EXTRUSION it is Face based. Similar for Walls, Floors, and Roofs.

Start with Face Based Generic Model, or just Generic Model, then switch the category to Lighting Fixture, if you arent sure.

Be aware that if you choose a host (face based or other) the pendant will always be perpendicular to the face. That’s fine on a horizontal face but is a problem when the face slopes as the pendant will not hang vertically.

Top right of your first image the (annoyingly default) 'place on vertical face' is enabled. Change that to ' place on face' or 'place on work plane' and you should be good to go.

Open the family. Make sure there is a reference plane at the top of the pendants. If so, select it, and in Properties choose "Is Reference" and set to Top.
Load into Project and overwrite. Then see if it comes in correctly when placing in the model.

and if it still places wrong, select it and you should see a little square/arrow icon. Select it to flip across the plane.
