    Door/window tags as dimentions

I am able to make door and window tags into dimensions but they come out as weird configurations!
Also, it says to save to a sensible location. When I click save as, "documents" come up. Is "documents" a sensible place or should I save some where else?
Also, I ultimately want to be able to choose between letters/numbers and dimensions on different projects. I tried duplicating the tag, but it wasn't editable!
    Thanks!

The door tag shown uses the length/width from the door. If the dimensions are odd, check your door dimensions and how the door is modeled(and/or post an example!)

Where is sensible depends on your office/project setup, and how you organize files. I'd save it with the other families either for the project or office. I'd only save to your user documents folder if I was a single practitioner, and even then I'd put it in a Revit Families folder. Once you load it into the project it will live in the project, and the location is only important if you want to save changes back to that family, or find it for use in another project.

Could you give an example of what letters/number you want to see? The family uses labels, which can only be lengths. If you want other information (like a door mark) you need to apply that label field instead.

I have tags embedded in my doors that read out some data, like the opening width and sound proofing.

And you can make 1 tag with both dimension, letters and numbers, just add multiple labels and use visibility parameters to turn them on or off in different types.

Yes, I have found that making tags can be very easy. They get set up similar to schedules.
The saving part tho-I find it hard to understand how, when and where to save things. Seems sometimes they go to the project, sometimes the program and other times, the computer.
I suppose I need to work on adding things like items downloaded to the proper part of Revit.
I'll get it Love the program! Thanks for the help!

You need to remember that once something is loaded into the project, you can remove the family from you computer or can do anything you like to it and nothing will happen in your project until you reload it into your project. But people do setup a folder with specific project or company families (project of company library), to have everything in one place for future reference.

OK, here's one example-Corner boards. Seems I have set them up several times. I wonder if I could save them somewhere that I could use them in the next project.
I think that if I understood where and how to save them, I could.
Another weak point in my use of the program is "Materials". In my 13 version, I had a hard time just changing the color of window trim. I was told that the newer versions are easier. We will see next time I want to make things pretty

Yep, just make a library folder somewhere and save it in there.
Next time you need it you can open it en load into you project of drag it in your project right away.

I would recommend keeping a library for each version (year) of Revit. Since they are not backwards compatible you don't want to modify a family in 2018 and then try to use it in 2017...

Definitely! And think about what version of Revit you are going to build your family as well. I made that mistake a few times, building it in the current version and ending up with making it again in a previous version as well

The plus side, doing it a second time is much faster
