    Sign hanging from ceiling

For a ceiling hanging sign that is a consistent 9' from the floor, but the ceiling height changes, should I be building a floor hosted generic model at 9' and the hangers on the sign.

Also I always end up over-constraining my families and they end up not working or having to forcibly break.

I've been building it as a generic ceiling hosted fixture. How do I get it to stretch essentially to the ceiling face? The sign types will change in size but be consistently 9' from the floor.

There are also some slanted ceilings which causes more complication when it hosts at an angle.

Metric Generic Model two level based.rft

Seems to work just fine from the quick test I just made for a flat ceiling.

Slanted ceilings however will require a different solution, first guess would be face based GM with a rotation parameter to bring the sign horizontal and a weak reference plane and instance parameter to drag the sign down to 9' from the floor. A column family might be another possible solution to look into.

Can you share your family? I'm trying to create a weak reference plane with an instance parameter to pull from and it just doesn't seem to move. It locks to the specific length I put in the family.

You'll have more joy if you reduce those instance-based grip pulls.

Do you mean something like this?
It's made fast and dirty but you can flex it how you want.

Is an instance-based grip pull as simple as throwing in a reference plane, locking the object to that and making it a weak reference with a length parameter (not set to anything)on it?

You can make them both have a different offset and set it as an instance parameter.
