    Preview Image Generator (P.I.G.)


    The Preview Image Generator (P.I.G.) will replace all those ugly preview images (.rfa thumbnails) with consistent & clear images for your entire library! It will even run automatically each time you save your families. Just install P.I.G. and let it do its job!

    Is there a way to turn specific subcategories on or off for the preview image? The example here would be 3d clearance objects.

      I dont think so, aside from using Preview Visibility, and having those clearances off with a parameter. I wish so, though! That would be an awesome new feature!!

        this is an interesting question - you certainly can do it from API with build-in categories and subcategories, because they exist in all families, (you just cannot see them) but i am not so sure with user defined subcategories, because you first will need to find them if they exist , so you will need to interrogate the family before you can change anything. and i do not like injecting families with anything be it extensible storage or parameters.

            You can control subcategories visibility with Dynamo (DanEdu & Clockwork), I can't imagine why an addin couldn't do the same thing.

              so to select what you want to turn off , you will need to know that it exists (to add to selection list) or be able to enter the subcategory name somewhere in the interface, then turn it off if it exists

                  Great to see you here! PIG is some good stuff. I gave in, and ran it on all of my libraries. After having spent years making preview images manually, LOL.

                    ****** does this as one small aspect of the batch processing of families. Unlike PIG the representation is hard coded with various categories turned off by default. 2D and 3D families are handled differently. Clearly this does not have the flexibility of PIG however it is often just one small part of a much bigger family processing operation where Parameters, Materials, Values, Categories, Text Styles, Imports, Nested Families, sorting to folders, is handled at the same time.

                    Other great aspects include that the software is network licensed at NO EXTRA COST, as well as users able to request extra functionality (even unrelated to families) at NO EXTRA COST.
