out of curiosity why wouldn't you want to use C4R? It's cheap, it works great, is simple to figure out. Other than the occasional BIM360 outages (like this morning) I have zero complaints about C4R. My current two projects on C4R have members in 4 different states.

Just our consultants do not use it.

I understand that from your original post. My use of "you" in my post was pointed toward the collaboration team. What is your definition of "workflow of collaboration"? This could mean anything from having phone conversations to all working in the same model. Or in between you could be linking their model into yours, they yours into theirs, etc. If you are not all working in the same model on a project then collaboration could be as simple as, they send you their model and you link it into your model. I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that what you were asking about was a method of yourself and other consultants working in the same model. If that would be the case then, IMO, there is no substitute for C4R. The fact that they don't have it can be easily and cheaply fixed by them purchasing a single license. I think that I pay less for C4R a year than I do for Starbuck's coffee

But i think that this way - "they send you their model and you link it into your model" - is not very practical because you have to link your copy of their model, replaced by the new one, again and again. They should do the same respectively. How to save shared coordinates when working like this?

If everyone is working in Revit shared coordinates works just fine, the models will overlay everytime in the right place (assuming coordinates dont change) and in general it works the same way C4R will just that its less automated.

The workflow is pretty much this

Define dates to share models. (Think that structures team needs some time to complete and review modifications in architect models, and other disciplines also).
Work out a way to share the model, depending on project. Do you break the model up by level, share the entire model, do it by scope boxes...etc. If it's being also used for clash detection I have often seen this split up by level or zone, in larger projects but its arbitrary, its simply what works with your sharing process.

I suggest share the entire model, its easier to manage as it ends up being one file to manage, but again if the project is HUGE this will cause slow down on your file, it can often be easier on large models to share it in portions so that levels not being worked on can be disabled.

Also define dates that the structures team needs to give you back their updated model (the information flow is bi-directional)

Work out a model review procedure (the revit collaboration Tools work just fine / ie. copy & monitor) also integrating either Solibri, or Navisworks for clash detection is a good idea as it makes review and modification documentation easy and traceable. Solibri is probably better then Navisworks for "Quality Control". If you need to do 4D then Navisworks probably has the edge.

Just one more clarification: when I replace their old model and relink, their new model still have my coordinates which i published into their old model Correct?

Not unless you had saved their model and sent it back to them (which also assumes they hadn't done any work on their end since sending their file to you).

BUT ... when you get an updated model from them and use "Reload From" in the Manage Links dialog to select the new file, it should update their model in the same place it was placed.

I suggest looking into the Autodesk Desktop Connector for BIM 360 Team. From Revit, using the Desktop Connector, you can link their non-C4R RVT file via the "cloud" (BIM 360 Team). Your consultants can simply save their project to a BIM 360 Team Project from within Revit.

This way, you avoid the "dead-linking" issue, or the need to constantly download and replace an RVT file on your local system.

I always keep a copy of their model with their name....I open it and make sure there are no links to elements on their network and I save it as the linked file in our project. (discipline_projectname.rvt). Then I just reload latest in my model. There is no reason to unlink or reload from. As long as they don't move their model it always works.
