Hey all..from the maker of the Preview Image Generator (P.I.G.)

Most of us know that we can use Detail Items inside of our families. For example, you might place a blocking symbol INSIDE a profile as a nested family instance - so it appears when the sweep is cut in section (a separate TIP, really). OR you might want to place one in a plan view of a column family to show more detail...

BUT what about showing Detail Items in a Front/Back or Left/Right section?

Revit allows those to appear, sure.. but what if you want them to ONLY appear in when that family is CUT by a your section line in project? Well, Revit also allows this by default - but only to certain categories!! Check out the visibility settings for a detail item in:

Generic Model:


HERE's THE TRICK!
If yours is a category that doesn't allow you to check that box, don't WORRY! Briefly change the family category to one that DOES allow you to check the box (Like Structural Framing), CHECK THE BOX, then change your category BACK to what it was before. Now, the box is STILL checked and the functionality is enabled!
