Revit error when moving around linked revit file with shared coordinates

If I understand things correctly, I should be able to move buildingA.rvt around inside site.rvt, at which point I can save its new shared location. Unfortunately I'm getting an error when I try to move buildingA around, then click "save now" on the resulting prompt. See attached image.
I'm new to this whole Shared Coordinates thing. I thought I understood it, but now I'm not too sure

I'm no expert, but I think you're following the correct process with one or more problem files. I guess you've closed and re-opened all files with an audit, but if not I suggest doing so. The problem may go away, fingers crossed.

No luck. Thanks for the idea though

I wish I had a better answer. Did you try not saving to the linked file right away, then saving after you were done moving the link? Did you unlink / reload? Did you delete the link then re-attach (saving the location some other way to not have to figure out the location again)? Those are the steps I would take before running out of ideas.

When you SWC, accept the option of saving the new position back to the linked model.

After trying to detach and reattach the file, and trying to give it a new shared coordinate, I'm now getting an error that says "You cannot save the link buildingA.rvt because it has changes in more than just shared coordinates, which can invalidate local files owned by you".

I've tried looking up what THIS new error means, but every forum post talks about linked CAD files. I haven't been touching any CAD files. I've just been trying to move this darn rvt file.

If none of the files you are working with contain any DWG links, it sounds like Revit thinks the link has been saved by someone else and revit does not want to overwrite that file. I'm not sure how to proceed if revit refuses to save the file. Maybe you can make a copy of the link file, then manage links > select link > reload from > (select the copy of the link instead of the original link)?

Boy I hope someone with better ideas comes along to help you!

I misspoke. There's definitely DWG files linked into the revit file, I just hadn't touched any of them when things went from bad to worse.

Edit - and now that "you cannot save the link buildingA.rvt because it has changes in more than just shared coordinates..." error has gone away. Hurray!
So I'm back to the problem of revit telling me a "serious error has occurred" when I try move a linked coordinate revit file, and try to Save Now it's position.

Sometimes I get messages / warnings that sound bad (and that one DOES sound bad), then by mistake I move past the error message and am able to just proceed. If you can get past the message without cancelling your action then close and re-open all relevant files with an audit, maybe just hope for the best since you've done all you can do to resolve this and move on.

Please note I've been lucky and my advice might cause problems in your situation. There are many people on this board with more expertise regarding troubleshooting, and I hope someone chimes in with additional warnings should my advice be worrisome to them!
