CAD and Xrefs not linking correctly

I am trying to link a CAD drawing file into my Revit model. The CAD file has 2 Xrefs (2 different drawings of site information) as well as layers specific to the main CAD file. None of the layers of the main CAD file are showing up in Revit even though I have the link set to bring in ALL layers. I go to visibility graphics and see that the new layers in the main CAD drawing did indeed get "imported" but nothing on that layer shows up despite the layer being checked on.
Any ideas about what is happening and why the new layers on the main CAD file are not visible?
    Thanks,
    GH

Are they all in the same Z plane?

I've seen that happen when the version of AutoCAD used to make it was newer than the release of Revit, such as AutoCAD17/18 linked to Revit 2015/16. Have access to AutoCAD? Try saving to an older format. Also try removing the Xref's and link it alone.

Everything is in the same z-plane

Yes, everything is in the same z-plane...0,0,0

Using Revit 17 and AutoCAD 14.

Any warnings? Regarding missing links or proxy elements?

No warnings of any kind. I look in Revit and it says I have a linked drawing with all of the layers I kept on...no drawing to be seen anywhere in any view (2D or 3D)

                Willing to share the file?

If not, use wblock on the relevant portion of the file and save that to a new file. Explode all... try linking again. This stuff nearly always tracks back to AutoCADity.

What a wonderful combination. That rules out nasty AEC definitions.
You did not by accident 'delete' layers from the linked file in REvit?

This ^^. I see this issue every now and then and this works. Also copy/pasting into a new blank cad file (save as) can work.
