    Shade overhang and shade fins

    Hello!

What is the best way to draw Shade overhang and shade fins using Revit 2018?
I want to draw the shadings in the picture below:

It can be A face based family, it can be a generic model by face or wall, an IN PLACE family can do the job too, you need to search into the family templates and chose one that will let you put it in wall faces, with a generic model by face you'll be able to give some parameters to control the depth and height, but if yoa are seeking for something more complex which you will find in schedules and IFC export you may need to think in a Structural family, regards

Thanks. but what is a "face based family"?
I want to export this model to IFC, if I use this method, will this shading be imported as IfcShading?

Hi again Arghavanni, a face based family is an object that ca be placed on a FACE no matter what type of object is the HOST it means that if you have a face based family you will be able to place it on a wall, roof, floor and so on, so your shade overhang can be a Face Based Family which you will find for sure in a IFC model, HTH

Hi again Arghavanni, I'll try to explain you how to model your shade, first: Go to NEW>NEW FAMILY>METRIC GENERIC MODEL (Wall)

once then you'll find a generic Wall which means you will be able to place your shade in walls, also you'll be able to model 3D forms

to do this go to >ELEVATIONS>PLACEMENT SIDE

Once there you need to select the extrusion tool and with the help of drawing tools you need to draw the desired shape for your shade, finally when the shape is drawn you'll need to validate the extrusion by hitting on the GREEN symbol

You'll need to give a depth to your extrusion by changing the values in the properties palette or by push pull the grips in the extrusion form

Finally you may need to charge the family into your project,

I hope I've been clear enough, Regards

Thank you so much for this very detailed explanation!
I ended up drawing it with Sweeps, but I can try your method too!
