    Channel in Coarse View?

    Hello,

In plan view we like to show steel framing in coarse detail, however is there a way to have the coarse linework show up at the backside of channel? In my experience the channel is detailed to the backside face. Our current workflow is to flip to medium or fine detail, snap the dim, and flip back to coarse. I was able to adjust the channel family to change the reference for the plane on the back from "not a reference" to a "strong reference" and flipped the center to "not a reference". So I think I have resolved the dimensioning, but it still looks funny in coarse detail and the dimension doesn't actually snap the line. Any thoughts on how to get the coarse linework to show up on the backside of the channel?

    Thanks,
    Barry

I'm guessing you could simply modify/add the lines in your families and set them to show at coarse only.

      Thanks for the reply!

As for modifying it - I don't actually see the single line inside the family that shows up for coarse detail. In fact there isn't any lines for the visibility that are on Coarse detail everything is on Medium or Fine. As i look further at the other beam families none of them do either so how is this line created?

The only options one has when adding lines in a family is to use Model lines, which would show up in all views which is not ideal.

Maybe I'm missing something. I have attached my family which i modified the reference planes so that the backside channel face is the "origin" and "Center (Front/Back).

One of the issues is that when drawing the beam it automatically snaps to the "centerline" of the channel section which varies with every channel. This to actually place a channel in the correct plan one would have to draw it, then draw another line or snap a dimension and modify the location making significantly more work than actually just being able to draw it right the first time :banghead:.

      Thanks!
