    Detail Component in a Profile

Why, when I'm allowed to nest a DC inside of a profile family will that DC not show up when I use that profile family to create a wall reveal. In short I am creating a V groove for EIFS, I nest a detail component with a filled region representing the EIFS finish following the profile of the V groove reveal in the profile family. Why when I create the reveal in the project then cut a section detail through the reveal does the nested DC does not show up? :banghead::banghead:

Weird... they show up fine in a regular sweep :banghead: That's kind of dumb.

That’s the way it has worked as long as I remember. One also can’t tag reveals. And they get “profiled” often if silhouettes are used. These reasons together lead me to using sweep even when in reality things like joints should be reveals.

I don't recall specifics but does it matter if the DC is shared/nested?

Just use a Face Based Family. Then you can have the DC in there, AND have real geometry, if you want that too.

Shared detail components I have never had good luck with, they have a tendency when nested to have the view order messed up, but as they are nested one can not use the move to / foreground to resolve. Tried nested shared detail components a few times over the years, though not in the most recent builds, always seamed a great idea, always broke in the end. Nested non-shared works, but missed the ability to tag or keynote them.
