Can't use loaded families in project!!!

So, Revit was just installed on the laptop. I needed automatic sliding doors, so I went to revitcity.com. Everything went as it was supposed to. It opened in Revit, and I was able to save it into the project i'm working on. The problem is that I can't find the family (or any others I loaded into the project). They do show up in the Project Browser, but I am unable to actually find them under any of the architectural tabs or properties to actually use them in the project. Does anyone have a solution for this, or am I doing something wrong? Please help!!!

it depends on what kind of category your loaded family is. If you sliding door is a 'door family' then it should be visible if you start the Architecture - Door command. Sometimes a door is modeled as a Windows family and then it should be visible when you start the Architecture - Window command. When modeld as a Generic Model (and other families) it should end up onder Architecture - Component.

If you see it in your project browser you can also right click on the type you want to add to your project and select 'Create Instance'. It will then be on your cursor for you to place in your project.

      Hey Robin,

The auto sliding doors are showing under 'Doors' in the Project Browser. I've looked for it in Architecture - Doors, Windows, Walls, and Component. When I tried to 'Create Instance' from the project browser, it was grayed out, so I couldn't create an instance.

Do you have any other ideas? Thanks!

Well your image explain it, it is not a window or a door, it is a curtain wall panel, which you need to add to your curtain wall.

Place a curtain wall, select the glass, unpin it if needed and choose the new panel from the properties panel.

              Hey Robin,

Thanks so much for your help! It's still not working. I even tried to move it from doors to walls, but it didn't work. I'm not sure what is going on with Revit, but it's giving me all kinds of problems today. It won't save any of my work. It says the file failed to open, and that the file didn't save. It won't even save as. I dunno.

              Thanks again!

It's a curtain wall....has nothing to do with doors or walls. With Curtain Walls you have to split up the wall with grids to create mullions and doors. You can select individual panels to change them to a custom panel (like a awning window) or to a curtain wall door.

or a sliding door in this case as the family the OP is working with is a curtain panel
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!
