    Elevation marker/view - Viewing range

It seems the elevation marker must be positioned about 60m away from the building in order not to cut into it (effectively making the elevation view look like a section view), and if I'm not mistaken this required distance seemed to change while I was moving the elevation marker. I have 'far clipping' set to 'no clip'.

So what parameter controls the viewing range of the elevation view?

Does it also have a perspective, or only a range?

No idea where that 60m comes from, I can place my elevation marker right next to my building and everything looks fine. Pretty sure both elevations and sections work the same. When you place the line of an elevation across your building you end up with a section and if you place a section line outside your building you end up with an elevation.

All I can think of is that you have locked you elevation to a scopebox, this makes you loose the option to set the Far Clip Offset

Far Clip Offset is the parameter that controls the elevation "view range". But you have to have Far Clipping set to with Line or without Line for it to work. Also, if you move the elevation marker box and triangle together it moves the far clip line along with it but if you move the elevation marker by just selecting the box you can move the marker anywhere you like and the far clip line stays where it was. Hopefully I've understood and answered the question you had?

Great, solved! I hadn't seen there is a section line, visible when I select the elevation marker arrow. I moved the marker by drag-select, and then it also moves the section line, without making it visible.

Just a "good practice advice": don't get used to move stuff by drag-select. Use the move command instead; it's just more accurate.
