    Align dimension not working properly

    Hi,

I am kinda new to Revit and I am trying to use the align dimension command to show an aligned dimension between two points- I am trying to make dimension line(30480) parallel to line AB. The outcome is that it gives a linear dimension instead of an aligned dimension

Kinda find it strange because in a similar scenario it works perfectly.

I teach a Revit class, and Dimensions are one of the things people struggle with a lot at first.
The way I describe it is that they do not show the length of an element.
Revit Dimensions show the distance between two parallel elements.
So, the dimension in your screen shot is doing exactly what it's supposed to. It's showing you the distance between the two vertical lines.
Your dimension has nothing to do with line AB.

You CAN, however, get Revit to tell you the distance between two POINTS. (Note; this is not the same as the length of the line)
You'll have to start the Aligned Dimension tool, hover your mouse over point A, and press the Tab key until you see the endpoint highlight. Then click.
Then hover over point B and Tab until it highlights. At that point (pun intended) you'll have the dimension line parallel to AB.

Also, note; this only works for the ENDPOINTs of the lines. If they only cross, you can't pick their intersection point.
