    Conditional Formatting in Schedules using characters instead of cell color?

    Any way to use characters instead of just a color for conditional formatting in Schedules? Specifically what I'm trying to do is use a "bullet" from the Character Map symbol in Windows as a sheet revision indicator for a sheet index issue column as we revise the set. Right now I use conditional formatting to color the cell based on revision number, then I copy/paste the bullet in manually. Just wanting to remove a step is all, and using a cell color tends to blend too much when you have 2, 3 or more sheets in a row that have a rev associated with the issue.

    Could you use a calculated value instead that sets the value to "DOT/CHECK/BOX" on true and "" on false and hide the original column?

      I'm always willing to go down a different avenue if it works. I've tried to follow your quick suggestion but I can't seem to fully grasp what you're saying - would you mind giving me an example? I can give more info too if you need. Thanks!

        That sounds exactly like what we do here. There are a series of yes/no parameters in the sheets and they are read by another series of text parameters with the following formula: if(IssueX, "●", " "), where x matches the issue number. The actual issue yes/no parameter is hidden.

          can you tie the IssueX to the revision schedule or does it require manual input?

            We used to enter it manually via coordination schedules, but our new BIM manager put together a tool that automates them based on the revision sequence number. It still requires the used to push a button, but it's much easier than before.

              If this entire thread surrounds the issue of build the "Drawing Index MATRIX," i would go take a peek in the Dynamo Forum: Dave Jones needed to do this a while ago, so we made a Dynamo graph that does the entire thing. It does it in excel, mind you. But (to me) thats plenty fine.

              Even if you wanted it in Revit, you would only need one more step with a Spreadsheet Link or BIMLink tool, to pull the data in to the sheets...

                It does revolve around "Drawing Index Matrix" process. I was just trying to keep it very simple, because my projects for contractors have a pretty simple drawing index and a simple Revision process. I've attached my current manual setup, which works great, and I have many columns hidden that when I'm managing this, I have some automation in place that helps me out, but I wonder if Excel/Dynamo is just "too much" for a few sheet revisions here or there based off simple ASI's for updating a set of shop drawings, you know?

                  You know... I can never remember which conversations were emails, and which were RFO posts. Maybe there never was a post about it.

                  The funny thing about when people call Dynamo *too much* is its only *too much* if you have to create the graph yourself. If others help you, all you need is to install the packages, and then it works.

                  Exporting all Sheets and all revisions to Excel for document tracking.

                    I would think you could modify the graph to affect the sheets directly in Revit without a round trip through XLS or CSV and another program. Hmmm... another thing to add to my to-do list.
