wall shared with third parties - how to draw?

how can i show in revit a wall that is shared between 2 neighbors?. In ACAD I just draw half the wall along its length (if total width of wall is 230mm i draw it 115mm) and mark with a double center line where its shared.

here in the US this is called a "party wall" and there are various ways to construct them, most of which are defined by local building codes. That said, I would investigate what is required where ever you are then build the wall in Revit exactly like it will be built on the project. Or, if this is just a learning experience then Google "party wall construction" and you'll see lots of examples of the various options

I think Chris wants to split the wall down the center so one piece is part of one home and the other piece is part of the other. I would not do that. As Dave mentioned, build it in Revit the way it will be build in real life. So, if it is 1 concrete 230mm wall, model it as 1 concrete 230mm wall. Splitting it up will cause all sorts of issues while modelling (need to keep track of 2 walls where people expect to have just 1 and I'm guessing IFc will give trouble and scheduling will be a pita as well.

If you want to have drawings per house and really want to show just half the wall (I have never done that) just use a cropbox and place that in the middle of the wall.

yeah, I kinda thought that too (that the OP wanted to split the wall). Remembering way way back when I was in school and making ends meet by working construction I recall apartment party walls to be wood framed and consisting of two separate 2x4 or 2x6 stud walls with a space between them for acoustical installation. Then regular R19 insulation in the stud cavities. If it was a concrete wall between two spaces why would there be any importance to having each residence have an "ownership" of the wall?? Other than maybe graphical in which case your crop region idea would work fine.

The real reason people tend to try splitting the wall in half (in Revit) is that they are either using Groups or Links for the units or houses, and they have a bunch of walk hosted or face based items, which need the wall to be included for the content to work.

For the record, I tell my clients: Party and demise walls dont go in the groups at all. And no face based or walk hosted items in the group are hosted to the party wall. They use unhosted content for most things, and there is a reference plane at the face of the wall (in case they absolutely must use a face or work plane based family) that is in the group.

I assume you control the extents of the RP so they don't show up everywhere?

yeah in Malta we call the 3rd party wall but wasn't sure what other countries call them. and the double centre line is the standard in malta for drawing these walls.

i'll look int that as still learning revit

depends who built the wall first. if im building and using my neighbour's wall then i have to pay for half the wall to my neighbour. its always an issue here in malta.
