I use a Detail Line to take edge of insulation dimensions. The Detail Line will snap to the edge of most Insulation. The one exception I found that a Detail Line will not snap to is the inner and outer arcs of elbows in Plan View.

Yes, that is exactly what it is doing. I will just have to try to not role my main lines until the issue is fixed. Thank you for the help.

And here it is. Rolled duct axis after a 90 used to level out a 12/12 run of duct. Trying to place a pipe break detail component and the snaps will not work on the insulation or duct edge, but rather some other unknown geometrical oddity (which is similar to a geographical oddity where you are two weeks from everywhere).

That could possibly be it. I did notice that one spot that was doing it was around a 90 and the pipe had some tee's coming off at a 45. I was able to make it work by going off the edge of the pipe and subtracting the insulation thicknesses to get the distance I wanted. I am just trying to remove possible errors, like me making a math mistake.

Any chance the pipe is rolled around it's central axis? I know that doesn't even EXIST in the real world, but sometimes I see interesting behavior in Revit when a pipe is supposedly rotated along it's length. This may occur when you draw a horizontal stick of a rolled 90 coming from a 12/12 pitched pipe.

This scenario also screws up the graphics of elbow heels at times.

I have checked that. I can select the pipes and dimension off of them but they have different thicknesses of insulation so I was trying to check the distance between the insulation. It is weird because I can select it on some of the pipe insulation but not all of it, or sometimes it lets me select the half way point between the edge of the pipe and edge of the insulation.

If two objects are not truly parallel, you cannot select the second object for dimensioning. Check that first.

    Dimenioning off of insulation

I am trying to space out my hydronic and domestic pipes with insulation. We like to install them with 2 inches of space between the edges of the insulation. The thing is sometimes I can select the edge of the insulation for dimensions and sometimes I can't. Has anyone else come across this and how did they fix it?
