Global parameter for automatic sheet sorting?

I just noticed that my Discipline Sorting parameter on my sheets has the Global Parameter button next to it. We use this to group sheets by discipline in the Project Browser and also on the Sheet List schedule. We have parameters 00 Schematic, 01 General, 02 Civil, 03 Architectural and so on down to 99 Supplemental. Could there be a way to automatically assign the Discipline Sorting parameter based on the sheet number?

So instead of creating a new sheet, that sheet showing up in the ??? section, and then I have to remember to assign the correct Discipline Sorting parameter, could there be a way to take the first few letters of the sheet number such as "if Sheet Number begins with A, assign 03 Architectural for the Discipline Sorting"? Or if the sheet number begins with SD, assign 00 Preliminary, and so on.

I'm just not sure if there's a way to get Sheet Number or other Sheet parameters into an IF( formula in a global parameter. Any ideas?

I suspect there is not, since, even if you can pull in the sheet number that parameter is text (how you can input A-101) and text can't be evaluated. You could make a dynamo script to add the sort information.

yeah but wouldn't that be something that would have to be manually run? Dynamo scripts aren't continually running all the time, right? I was hoping for something automatic, like, create a new sheet, and it automatically gets the correct Discipline Sorting parameter set, based on its sheet number. Would have been nice, oh well.

Yes, it would need to be run regurally, I don't know if there are ways to get dynamo to run continuously, but I suspect there'd be side effects that would make it undesirable.

Yes, it would be nice to evaluate text values and automate things like that.

It's just one of those things that I'm looking for to help increase productivity and decrease errors. Oh well, can't automate everything I guess!
