    Revit 2012 RAM Usage

Has anyone had issues with Revit 2012 RAM running away? I have experieneced this on 3 occaisions in the past 2 weeks.

First time, working with a Topo surface. Started with Revit using 1.2gb and ended with 12.4 in less than 1 hour. Afer Revit crashed I rebooted and went through the same process. A couple of days later I worked on the same file and no issue at all. Stayed in the 2gb Range the whole time. File size is 60mb, Topo only and a few floors for slabs. Notrhing really big.

SEcond time it happened I was working on a larger file that has multiple worksets turned off for performance. This file has been around for 4 months and has generally been stable. It was started in 2011 and upgraded, but till late last week no issues at all.

Working on the file the same behaviour occured. Revit would last about 20m before consuming all my RAM and crashing. Restarting Revit seemed to make the problem worse, only a Reboot would slow down the RAM consumption.

The second file has 3 people total working in it. No one else has the issue and I have been in both files since without the issue reappearing.

    I have done the following:
    Reinstalled Revit
    Defragmented the HD
    Compressed the cenrtal files
    audited the central files

Any others experience RAM issues with 2012. Any suggestions?

I've had these issues with every version of Revit I have ever used, not just 2012. When I first started using Revit (2008 I think), I used to save my file, go to lunch, come back an hour later and find Revit had crashed. So without even touching it Revit used to chew up the memory. Someone else recommended doing a windows disk clean up, so I do it every morning when I know I'll be using Revit. It helps sometimes. Later versions of Revit will also sometimes "catch" the crash and allow you to save a recovery version. Sometimes. This is my experience. Others' may be different. I don't use Revit much any more.

Have had it a few versions back... It was 2010 I think. Leaving Revit unattended would make it crash. It was a fairly common problem and finally got solved with an update.
      But not recently no.

That seems really high however. I run 12 GB of ram and the only time I max it out is when I am running 3 or 4 sessions of Revit, granted my structural files are usually much smaller than an Arch file...but still, 2012 crashing at 12gb of ram seems like something else is up.

I've had a 481MB structural model open for over a week 24/7 in RAC 2012 with no problems. I am however not doing any work in it, just using it for reference and navigating to different views so that may not be a fair assessment.
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!

            cphubb,

Which operating system are you using? I have two boxes, one running windows 7 64bit and the other running Vista 64bit. Wither the Win7 box, I hardly get any problems with RAM leakage. Vista however, needs careful attention. We have gotten into the habit of rebooting at lunch time. No crashes since.
