Open workset dialog to release memory

In the past you could open up the worksets dialog, close it and a chunk of memory would be freed - for awhile until you did more work, then it slowly climbed again. Where did this info come from? I can't remember if it was buried in this forum somewhere (searching didn't help) or if it was blogged before.

Does this still happen? IT has locked down my resource monitor, so I can't check.

I heard about it at RTC...but yeah, it's a short term fix. Long term, get more RAM.

Well that's really odd. I just opened my Task Manager and looked at Revit.exe which was sitting around 190,000 K memory usage. When I opened the Worksets dialog, it dropped to about 30,000, but then when I closed the dialog, it popped right back up to ~190,000.

Which version of Revit were you using?

Okay yeah I noticed it just now using 1.5 GB memory, I opened Worksets and it dropped to just 30 MB use. When I closed Worksets it jumped back up to around 300 MB, but that's still way less than 1.5 GB.

That's really weird that it drops so low while Worksets is open. I tried opening other dialog boxes but those had no effect on memory usage.

That sounds more "normal". as you work, it'll slowly start creeping up again I'd assume.

Yeah but I run 32 GB RAM and it's never been a problem for me.
