    Revit to C4D (on Max OS X)

    Hi there. We are working with a client that will want to try and give us Revit files.
    To my (very little) knowledge of Revit, it looks like you can export a 2007 DXF file and that C4D will import it beautifully.
    OR the other option would be to install an OBJ converter and export a packaged OBJ with textures.

    I downloaded some test DFX files and C4D recognized them but didn't import. ...same issue you would get with an Illustrator file that hasn't been saved correctly. My assumption is that the DXF files were not 2007 versions.

    Please let me know how I should tell our client to export for me. I have never touched Revit! I am working on Mac OS El Capitan and C4D R18.

    I've not used C4D but have tried multiple methods of exporting to obj with textures, to use with Octane Render which only accepts obj. All methods I've tried required multiple steps and multiple softwares and I've experimented with various format steps (fbx, dxf, dae, etc). The most successful and ultimately the easiest was Simlab & Simlab Composer Integration with Revit. I used Composer, with it's Revit plugin. The plugin directly exports to Composer. Inside Composer, I combined same materials (one step) and for some reason, had to flip the model on one axis. Then export as a zipped obj package. This creates a folder with the obj file + a material folder. The downside was material names wouldn't carry through. I haven't updated my SimLab software so this might be better now.

    SimLab also has a separate standalone Revit obj exporter plugin Simlab 3D Plugins - OBJ exporter for Revit
    This looks a one step export with embedded materials. Might be the easiest for your client to use.
