Need FASTER way to change MANY Parameters!

    Hey Gang,
So I have 15 shared parameters that need tweaking and switching out for new ones on about 100 light fixture families. Right now, for every parameter in every family I have to follow these steps:
    - delete old parameter. delete?yes.
    - new parameter
    - click 'shared parameter'
    - click 'select'
    - scroll and choose parameter
    - click 'instance'
    - click 'Other" for grouping
    - click 'OK'
    - then click downdowndowndowndowndowndowndowndowndowndowndowndo wn to place in correct order spot in the list

....Then repeat 800 times or so. THERE HAS TO BE A FASTER WAY. THOUGHTS, PLEASE?!

They are all 3d generic family files like recessed lights, floods, LED strips, wall mounts, pendant mounts, etc. Each has it's own 2d symbol from the correct view with a generic 3d (ball and stick style) fixture for each family and a list of attributes in a specific order.

There are several 3rd party tools to assist with this stuff (though I'm not sure about the order of parameters - but then, I might suggest a rename so they sort the way you want alphabetically).

Okay that sounds useful! Do you know what any of these 3rd party tools are called?

Now is a really good time to rethink those parameter names, too. Parameter names using a dash as a character is a really bad idea, as they can never be used in formulas.

CTC's Revit Express Tools Family Processor does this sort of thing, really well.

I agree with you. Not my call on the names though, so I'm stuck with that. I'll look into that Family Processor tool. Thank you!

Well... not never, but you do need to wrap the names in [] for them to work.

Oh wow. Yes indeed. The Family Processor seems pretty perfect for this! I don't suppose they sell it separate from the rest of the BIM Manager Suite? Because they should.

If you schedule a family with the parameters you like, then you can add parameters the schedule window, then there's a button to force them into all families of the category.

                    Your answer is one word
                    Dynamo

It will do this, but opening each family will still be a PITA but at least you can automate the rest of the process.

here is a LinkedIn thread on a dynamo batch rename which would be adaptable to your purpose
