How do you load a type catalog with a family?

I am noticing that more and more of the Revit families from vendors come with a text file that is the "type catalog". How is this used?
I loaded a light fixture family into my model but says that type is "INVALID TYPE" and further down in the type parameters under Model it says "PLEASE LOAD TYPE CATALOG". How do I do this?
    Thanks as always

How are you loading your families? Are you doing a drag-n-drop and/or loading from the open family?

To load a family with a type catalog, you have to use the "Load Family" dialog. After you select the family, another box will pop up to allow you to choose which types you want to load.

The Type Catalog (.txt file) must exist in the same folder that the family (.rfa) is coming from.

        That was perfect!
I've been loading the family from within the open family. I did not realize if you loaded the family via the "load family" dialog,
that the type catalog makes itself available to pick from. Thanks!
