Difficulty Creating a Repeating Adaptive Component Along UV Grid of Conceptual Mass

    Hi All,

I am going a little crazy trying to accomplish the following... Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I'm creating a form in the conceptual massing environment from a number of unique spline profiles which are hosted along a multi-segment curve. (see profiles, profiles2, profilesplan)

From the splines I created a form (see images form3d and formplan) which I've divided using a UV grid (or more specifically a V grid and the "intersects tool" to generate the U grid so that all the "sections" through the form are aligned to the centrepoint of the arc segment they lie on (see images divided surface plan & divided surface 3d)).

What I am trying to achieve is a number of "Ribs" (see sketch: Desired Rib Section) which are 200mm thick at the base but taper to 50mm thick at the top. the shape of these sectional profile of the ribs should be determined by the vertical grid of the divided surface. The planar layout of the ribs that I am after is something like in the sketch: "Desired Rib Layout"

The issue i'm having is that I can't for the life of me create an adaptive component family that follows the grid in a uniform manner. I've tried every setting for the "orients to" property of the adaptive point itself but the best I can get is what is shown in the image "adaptive component elevation" - and furthermore it gets even worse when I attempt to repeat along the grid (see adaptive component plan).

What I'm wondering is.... Would there be a way to achieve what I'm after without using repeating adaptive components?

If I could just get surfaces along each of my vertical grids I could then load it into the project environment and use the wall by face tool to create the individual ribs.

Just not sure how to go about this....

I have attached a revit file with a portion of my conceptual mass in it's divided form. The adaptive component family is also in the project...not sure if it helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm trying to get this out for a deadline... Thanks !!!!!

As with everything Conceptual Mass, Zach Kron has been there before......-so before we start looking into your project, try to find a similar problem on his blog....-and see how he solved it. As an inspiration, this one:

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate the hot tip and I'm going to watch the tutorials you linked. I've seen some of Zach's stuff before and he is really good. Thanks!!

Your sketch entitled "desired rib layout plan" is beautiful. You should frame it.

          Hi Scott,

Sorry for my delayed reply. Thank you sincerely for taking the time out of your day to post that message.... You made my day!

          All the best,
