Massing - Floor Plan Area Calculation

I'm new to Revit but have a sound understanding and am already comming up against many of its limitations.

Massing is a very powerful tool that I could use for doing masterplanning, (that I currently do in 2D Autocad), because it has a useful area calculation function. However from what I have seen so far it appears to be next to usesless in the real world.

Why? Because when I carry out masterplanning I need to use the external size of the buildings in order to be able to measure distances between buildings and also to any potential constrainsts. Revit calculates a 'floor plan area' that is actually the Gross External Area (GEA). However, always without exception the Gross Internal Area (GIA) decides whether or not the project is worth while persuing therefore I need to be able to input a value or other offset into the calculation order to factor in the wall thickness and get out a more relevant figure.

Is it possible to configure that now or is it something I should add to the wish list for autodesk to include in the next revision. I can't believe they haven't thought to include such a feature. Perhaps the way in which Revit does the area calculation means it's not possible to do otherwise they would have done it.
