Model Lines are associated to a Work Plane.
(Actually a lot of things in Revit are.)
When you create a Model Line in the first place, there's an option way on the right end of the Ribbon to Set Work Plane.
If you've already drawn one, select it, and pick "Edit Work Plane" - again on the right end of the Ribbon.

Your task will be much easier if you create several Reference Planes and name them before drawing or modeling anything.
