In Place Mass Disappears when Subcategory is changed to Mass Exterior Wall

So my intent is to use in place mass for representing existing walls with varying sizes from the site survey for a project that will be demo'd later. The walls just need to be stand-ins. I can decide later if I want to create so many useless wall types to represent the actual walls.

I have created the In place mass as a test and changed the subcategory and then it vanishes.

Visibility Settings for the Mass and it's children are all checked in the views. :banghead:

Masses are off by default in most views. If this is to represent existing walls, why not just create an in-place family for them on the wall category?

Isn't that what I did, the shape is exaggerated but I used the In Place Mass option. Also, Revit says that Masses cannot be moved to the wall category.

Create a new in place family using wall category then trace over your existing mass. Or apply wall by face to your mass.
