    Attaching multiple CAD files Revit

Hello I am building a revit model by referencing autocad plans.
I am not American so I think of initial floor as ground and floor above as first ( is that not American convention? Thanks and respect to all Americans who help me!)
I started by putting plan on the ground floor and this is easy but when you have a multi-level building it becomes a whole lot more difficult.

I suppose there are two approaches:

I tried putting next attached plan on the first floor but I get the following error message:
None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan: First View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings.

In the manage links dialog box I cannot see an option to make the link view/plan specific. Is that what I should be doing?

    Another approach would be:

Put all plans on ground floor. Use extents to make sure, whatever level you are on. Only problem is how to turn on/off visibility of plans as you need them. There is no option in manage links box.

I have heard view templates might be relevant but am not sure how to use them.

    Thanks in advance.

    Is right approach:
After ground floor plan placed ignore Manage Links as a way of attaching the next plan.
Instead go to Insert> Link CAD.
This will allow you to use Choose following options: current view only and Place at: ( in this case First).

Only problem is, plan I require is nowhere to be seen.
    What next?

Have you set up your levels yet? You need to do that in an elevation or section view first, then you can assign the levels as you insert the CAD files.

Yes I have set up levels. One level is duplicated as “Roof 1 “ and “Second.”

Link your CAD with option 'Current View Only' unchecked if you want to see CAD in 3D, you can mange their visibility with view templates, put every CAD floor on a respective level in Revit.
If you cannot find CAD then turn off Crop View and try to zoom to fit to see the whole model, your CAD may be far away from origin.
Revit add-ins: Purger (delete UNUSED and selected line patterns & line styles, find & delete CAD), Rooms To Spaces, Schedule Utilities (Calculated Values/Combined Parameters To Tags, reuse view filter rules in schedule filters), View Filter Manager (with bunch of other features) at Revit Exchange Apps, View Filter Manager ML
