    How would YOU model this lighting fixture extension?

    Hey, you team of brilliant minds!

    I need some thoughts, please, of the best method to go about modeling the extension arm of this wall fixture (attached). I've shown here the other segments I've already modeled, but my experimenting is not producing results for the arm section that holds the lamp out.

    I've tried and failed creating curly cue Revolves along that path. I made a blocky Extrusion that follows that path, but can't get a void sweep to work correctly along those curvy paths. Should I try to mass it and then pull it into the family somehow?? And how would you handle the ornamented leafwork??

    Thanks for all your ideas! I'm stuck and really appreciate it.

    A single Sweep, for the main shape of the arm. Then a few simple (small) revolves placed at various points along the path, to simulate the detail. A couple extra extrusions in elevation, with voids drawn in plan, would make the leaves easy enough.

    The ones in the attached image were done literally ten years ago. They are much simpler (just sweeps for the arms), but they can look convincing enough after a short amount of effort.

      Wow that looks like a perfect idea, Aaron. Thank you. I've never tried to use a sweep not on a countertop (or similar) before. Would I draw a model line along that z-plane and then use THAT to guide the sweep?

          if the arm is a fixed value you can create the sweep path in a side elevation pretty easily. If you need to constrain the curves you still would do it in an elevation (imo) but you would need some RPs, parameters and some math to constrain it properly.

                I wouldn't. I'd get the general shape of it and forgo overmodeling unless this is going to be important for a rendering
