    Boss - Revit knowledge =0

Hey guys, just a funny question...
Is there any other person who works for someone that does not have any clue how Revit works?

I work in an office where they actually believe that Revit works allmost like autocad and the only different thing about these 2 programs is that revit could give you a section wherever you want it.... ready for presentation in just 2 clicks!!
The boss was working on autocad for centuries and he one day said to me i will have to work on Revit... so many months past but the only thing he could do in Revit is open the Program and navigate his self in the 3d...

All the commentaries i receive are :

    1. Just make a family (believing that i would draw for lines like in autocad lets say for a door and click group, and finally or better magicaly this will appear in every schedule, or with the right line weights and materials bla bla bla...)

    2. Come on why is this taking so long... your colleague has a better tempo that you... he compaires me with the rest that work only on autocad, as i am the only one that works on revit.

    3. Why do you use annotations and why do you draw 2d sometimes... its a 3d programm make everything in 3d (He means even screws of a window and the smallest details...)

    4. Why some dimensions are gone from the view port... they used to be there... ( after he decides to ask em to delete walls or change level heights, or even move the whole building or half of the building in the planed area..). He doesnt get that you can so eazly move a building in Revit, without errors ....

    5. When i dont use annotation he goes (come one the line weights its terrible!!!!)

I hoppe i am not the only one out there!!!! hahahah
    I am frustrated!!!!!

since I'm a self employed sole proprietor, I am the Owner, and I have deemed myself to be a 10, not a Zero. Nobody here to argue with about it though ;-P
I'm retired, if you don't like it, go around!

Anyone found solution how to explain to the boss?
I would really like to read some other crazy Boss thoughts about revit!

          hahaha

suggestion: it is easier to find a new job than to explain revit to CADosaurs, this will be an issue for the next handful of projects until the office has a library of built families, among other things.

It's up to you to decide if it's worth the effort, but there are some things to try. The main thing is, whenever you are trying to convince someone of something they don't currently believe or understand, you need to figure out what is most important to them, and then couch your argument that way.
So, is the boss crazy about presentations? Show them how Revit, or Revit with Enscape, or whatever makes sense, provides presentations that AutoCAD can't touch.
Boss is bottom line focused? Show them how Revit, used properly, can save a ton of time on projects.
Boss is customer service focused? Show them how a good Revit model can allow for better communication with the customer.
Now, all three of those are a ton of work to actually demonstrate, and then a ton more work to actually implement. And some bosses aren't that interested in hearing about it, because they don't actually want to know, they just want the intellectually easiest way to satisfy a client demand for "BIM". If the boss and the office are open to persuasion, there's folks here that can help with any of those three arguments, and more besides. If the boss or the office isn't open to persuasion, life for everyone is going to suck, because using Revit like AutoCAD is guaranteed to fail. Every single time. No exceptions. It's like putting hay in a car's gas tank. Worked with a horse, not gonna work with the car. And if at all possible, find a job where the boss isn't an idiot.

As a business owner myself, therefore "the boss", I still have Aaron Maller that puts me in my place from time to time. He can force even the most elite boss' to tuck their tails between their legs.

                  :P
