Find and Replace Materials for Revit

Hi everyone. I wanted to announce that we recently released a Revit plugin: "Find and Replace Materials for Revit"; compatible with Revit 2018 through Revit 2015.

The app finds assigned materials in a project document and replaces them with other materials selected by the user. Multiple materials can be selected to be assigned (merged) to a single material. Additionally, material assignment rules can be saved to a CSV file within the “batch mode” for later use. This tool can be invaluable to anyone trying to consolidate materials within a Revit project.

A free trial is available on the Autodesk App store for testing. Link provided below. Your feedback is much appreciated.

    Great app.

Just tried it out, and it works as expected. Its a bit odd in the UI, that you can select a new row on the left, and not realize the old row is still checked. But once you get by that, it works something fantastic.

Saved me a bunch of hours on template changes. Ill be buying at least 2 licenses, for sure.

Thank you for the feedback. I am glad that you find the plugin useful.

The biggest time saver for us is using the “batch mode”, where you can record material equivalent rules, and run the rules on multiple projects (you would have to open the projects individually); this could be a future feature if there is a need.

Regarding the GUI: there’s a bias towards selecting multiple materials and assigning the correct TEMPLATE standard material. The setup allows for quick selections.

Again, thank you for the feedback and trying out the plugin.

Yep. The batch mode is what I've been using. Even already did an export and import to a different file. Worked great!

Nice app! Is there an option to add unassigned materials to the list? I'd like to examine my entire material library and replace/merge so I can consolidate them. For example, I'd like to take "Vitreous China" and "Porcelain" and combine them to be available to assign to an object in the future. Am I making any sense?

It can turn everything that uses Vitreous China and Porcelain to a new material, that you made before hand (and that is a combination of the two), if thats what you mean.

Right, but only if those materials are assigned in the project. In order to accomplish what you suggest, I would first have to select a toilet, for example, and assign the Vitreous China material to it. It would then be available to merge/combine to my material that I made before hand. What I would like to do is avoid having to assign the material to the toilet before I merge with the new material. I don't see a way to do that. Maybe I'm missing it.

I guess i dont understand what you are intending to do in your *merge/combine* command. Sounds to me like you have two materials in the material editor, and you just want to delete one, and move some information from it to the other material, or to move the Render Asset from one material to the other. (My guess is its the render asset).

Correct, that it doesnt do that.

It does what it claims to do, though, and does it quite well.

Basically what I'm after is a material library manager that makes it as easy to merge/replace/delete materials as easily as the app does. I realize that currently the app does not do that, but being as it's V1 and Polynine is asking for feedback, I figured I'd ask.
