Issue with linking IFC exported from ArchiCAD to Revit 2017.1

    Hi,

I'm currently working with a large project where the Arch is using ArchiCAD.
The project is a office building, with well over 1000 rooms, with offices, parking areas, diners, gyms, laboratory's and more.

I've been having problems with Spaces disappearing after i reload a new version from the Arch.

If i turn on Interior and Reference in VG for Spaces/Rooms, i can clearly see that there are Spaces/Rooms there,
but they cant be tagged. Note that not all spaces disappear, only maybe 20-30%.

    I've tested the following,

    (IFC Filesize: ~120Mb)

Opening the IFC and saving it as a Revit file
. (Filesize after converting ~260Mb. Time ~3hours, with highend computer)

I can use the File pretty good, but the Spaces gets messed up every time the Arch releases a new file.
I'm not sure if it's the changes the Arch does, or something else.
With this method some floors gets strange lines all over, as the picture shows.
Using this way i can use the Space Naming Utility in Revit. And place spaces automatically. But as i said,
some spaces disappear with every new Arch release.

Not all floor types gets these strange lines. I'm not sure if there is some options for how Revit imports/rebuilds the IFC Floors to Revit data?
I've compared a floor with strange lines, and a floor that looks normal, and the "IFC GUID" is different.

Linking the IFC directly into the project.

The model works good, a part from that i lose the Place Spaces Automatically. Doing it manually in this size project is extremely time consuming.

Opening a Arch. Template in revit then linking the IFC, then closing and using the Revit file that Revit creates.
Pretty much the same as Linking it directly into the project.

    Graphisofts ArchiCAD connection.
I did try the linking process, i didn't see any significant improvements with it.

Has anyone had any similar problems like this?

    Using Revit 2017.1.

Hi Filip. We are struggling with the same issue. Revit 2017.2.3 and Archicad 20 (build 5025). Did you find any solution / possible workaround for this problem?

      Hi,

I haven't really found a good solution for this.

I did however find out the problem,

In this project the Architect are from Norway, and they do it a bit differently than the swedes.

In Sweden, Architects draws the floors, the beams etc into their model,
but in this project with a Norwegian Architect, that wasn't the case.
What he did was he imported the Prefab and Structural IFC to his model (ArchiCAD model) and then exported it all as one Architect IFC.
This caused some problems, since walls and floors wasn't really connected, like they would be in a complete Revit file.
So i guess, Revit didn't understand that.

I ended up manually drawing the space separation lines, and then texting the rooms.
It was although not so bad since the Levels in my project looks almost the same, so i just copy pasted.

Then i just placed spaces in the best way possible.

The Rooms are named like this "W1-06-300" Where the "W" is for West, the "06" for level and "300" for Room Number/Space.
Then i looked up the room with the lowest number, and places spaces thereafter, and Revit will Automatically name the room after the last number.
So Place one room, name it "xxx1" and then place another, and revit will name it "xxx2".

      I haven't had alot of time figuring out a better solution, but you might be able to;

Make a copy of the IFC with the spaces and Space Separation lines.
Turn of all layers except Spaces, Space names and Space Sep. lines.
Then export that as an IFC.
Then import that to your project.
Then use the Space Naming Utillity on that newly exported file, once.

I haven't tried this myself, but if i have time during the day i'll try it.
