    Editing Family Type Parameters for Separate Families

    We can edit parameters in bulk from different families simultaneously if the parameters are shared. The same doesn't seem to be true for Family Type parameters... or am I missing something? I would have sworn that wasn't the case but if I select, for example, a single swing and double swing door (thanks Aaron) I can see that both have the same Frame type assigned but if I try to change them both the drop down is empty. I can select more than one single, or more than one double and change them all at once, but not cross family. I can, however, change the door size across families.

    Did I miss something somewhere along the way?

    Hi GMcDowellJr,

    I m Richie13_91 from India, working on revit MEP since 1 yr.

    Just want to know when we edit the families, some families behave in an abnormal way, like when i change the parameter of a duct family from square to round then the dimensions got disappeared.

    Could you please let me know why it is so..?

      I'd think Revit can't see that deep for the same parameter coming from different families at the same time because of the 2nd hand nested-ness of the frame family. Whereas the door size parameters are top level in the hosting family yeah?

        Yes. Family is shared/nested and controlled via a shared family type parameter in the parent. With shared parameters like length, I can select different families (not just types of the same family) and change their common shared parameter at the same time. I thought the same was true for family type parameters (so that I ca change frame types in all selected families, for example) but it's not happening. Just not sure if that's as designed or if there's something I've done on my end.

            I just checked and mine behave that way too.

            I honestly think its a glitch, ill see what i can find out.

              Thanks for verifying. I was thinking I must have remembered incorrectly from previous versions. I would have sworn this was the case a few releases back.

              I'm seeing this in 2016. I assume you're looking at it in 2017 and seeing the same thing?

                Im in 2017.2, and validated its behaving that way (with my new doors). I sent it to the Dev team to see if thats intended, or if its acting up. Ill report back if they are kind enough to respond. =)

                it would seem to me if they werent going to let you edit it, it just wouldnt show up when multiple families are selected (the way non-shared parameters behave). I actually thought i had done this before (selected multiple families and swapped their panel types). But its completely possible they were ALL single doors when i did it (which works fine).

                  Single doors of the same family I assume? Seems that's the only way it's working on my end. At that point, they don't need to be shared parameters to work.

                    Yeah, in my case they were the same family. Good point. Not a valid comparison, haha.
