    Pipe Elbow Tick Sizing

    I am completely blanking on a solution to my tick size altering at different elbow angles. How can I program the tick size to stay consistent with each angle?

    The tick size parameter is currently: Fitting Outside Diameter *0.4
    Fitting Outside Diameter: Nominal Diameter *1.1

    I usually constrain the ends of the lines to the geometry of the fitting, so that the line length is the actual width of the thing.
    If thats not required I think it is actually better/neater to not show them at all, or use fixed sized round points or short lines that are the same in every family.

      I have the tick size constrained and my company prefers to be the tick size the same size regardless of the pipe size. Right now it works like that EXCEPT it does not obey my constraints when the angle is not 90°. In fact the tick size grows the larger the angle. I can't figure out how to further constrain the tick size when it should just be reading off the nominal diameter.

        Personally, my global solution to this is to remove the ticks altogether. I don't use them anymore for any reason. I don't even use radius elbows on single line - all mitered. Ticks are a drafting standard and while I personally think ticks do look good, It's too much trouble to try and use them in a BIM environment like Revit, so I changed my standard to better fit the way programs work in today's BIM world.

          My company and I prefer to see the ticks and we use radius elbows because we also do shop drawings and spools. I was just having trouble getting the tick size to obey the constraints when doing different angles. I did find the solution on another site. The parameter just needed to be: "Fitting Outside Diameter * 0.4 * tan(Angle / 2)" for the tick size.

            No problem. This will most likely continue to be a nuisance unless you are using only these few fittings and no more. Since I use a lot of different fittings I had to decide on constantly manipulating things based on nothing more than an old drafting standard/preference, or make it easy. I think it's cleaner and easier to read in the longrun without fitting ticks so I won't be going back regardless. Lines, Pipe up/down, and that's it for me.
