    Column Cap Visibility

    I'm having a brain fart here. I have some simple stone columns with a concrete cap on top. The client wants the caps to not show in plan. No big deal. I created a visiblilty parameter and turned off the caps. Perfect.

    Well, now I'm working on the elevations. Guess what? The caps are turned off since my visibilty parameter is global and not view specific. The only thing I can think of is to use a plan region around every damn column. What a pain. I can't just change the view range, because that will mess up doors and windows and other stuff. That's all I can think of, but something tells me there has to be a better way. Any ideas?

    Instead of using a visibility parameter, in the family editor, select the extrusion on the top of the column. Click on "Visibility settings" and turn off "Plan/RCP", only.

      Well, it worked on all types except 3. Any ideas why? It shouldn't have anything to do with cut planes, right? It should be off regardless?

        Another option: create a new Subcategory for them and turn that off in the VG-settings... (and in your Template off course... )

          In my what??? I don't know what that word means. :laugh:

          I guess I'll have to try that. I (well, Klaus helped me) created a column. Then I created duplicates for the different sizes (since I opted for type parameters). All but 3 types are behaving correctly and I have no clue why. I'll have to see about the sub category solution. I just need it to work! The project is in the last week or so.........finally. I'm tired of looking at this house. And it cutting into my COD time. :laugh:

                    Dan, in regards to the visibility of the cap, all the types here worked as expected, in a new project. So, you might have some old versions of the types still in your project. There is one type, though, the "Bunk room", that cannot even be displayed at all in my project. That type has a different issue.
