taking your opinion in the best way for ornamental framing

    taking your opinion in the best way for ornamental framing

    if i want to create this ornamental above window
    i would draw lines on elevation view of project then copying it and making paste in family generic model and make there different extrusion no matter and then load it into the project is there better way or you prefer this way please if there is logical way more better i should know please tell me land thanks
    for the little element under it i will use wall sweep

    oops i have problem during drawing on elevation the closed loop of lines is found to be faraway from elevation and i can not see this lines in hidden line mode

      Draw a reference plane on the face of the wall where the window trim will be. Then select it, and name it in the properties window. Now, in the elevation view, set the newly named reference plane as your work plane. Now you will be drawing the lines on the face of the wall. That's how you would do it using an in place family.

      I'm no family expert, but I would create that in the window family. That way, when you place the window, it's there. You will only have to create it once, and it will be part of the family.

          I wouldn't incorporate this in the family since it's

          a. Not part of the window (the old "build it like you build it").
          b. Not specific to a / all windows. How about when you DON'T want it on a next project? How about when you want it on a different window? You are either creating windows with huge amounts of ornaments which all need to be controlled by parameters, or huge amounts of window families with only difference being the ornament. (and yes, one can use nested families and the <family type> parameter but I think this would be a little too much right now)

          Further more: it's not necessary to draw a separate refplane. Go to the elevation view, start placing the component. BEFORE you place it, select "set workplane" or "place on workplane" and in the popup select "pick a plane". You can now select the wall by hovering over one of it's edges. Upside: you don't need to constrain the refplane to the wall...

            I would incorporate it in the window family, but as a nested family... Allowing my to reuse the ornament, and to turn it on/off with an instance parameter...

            If you know your way around in the family editor, this is much faster than having to place the ornament manually on each window. (OK, that depends on the count of windows... But...)

              Klaus, me too... But I was kind of thinking about the level of expertise from the OP here... That would require knowledge about nested families, linking parameters through nesting, setting up a parametric window and a parametric ornament, and so on...

              Easier is place 1 window and 1 ornament and then Group them. You can also save out the Group...

                    Mmmm, a danish sounds good right now. I'm starving.

                    Anyway, like I said, I'm no family expert. :laugh: I was just thinking it would be easier than putting that on every window. I was close, though. I just don't think about nested families..............yet.

                    I do like the "non correct easy way" though. Group it and reuse it. :thumbsup:
