    Nested family cut question

    Hello everyone,

Last time I was here, you guys helped me out A LOT, so here's a new challenge, which I cannot seem to tackle..

So I'm trying to build a "shutter" family, for the front of some houses, under the slanted roof. I want to make it smart enough, to be used in other projects and with different measurements, so I'm building a family.

    My first thought was this:
    1) build a beam
    2) nest the beamfamily in a stretchable beamsystem family.
    3) give the nested beamfamilies an array which I can control the distance between beams and the total amount/height of the beamsystem
    4) cut the sides of the beamsystem with the angle the roofs make.

But, unfortunately, Revit doesn't cut my nested families with a void.
I cóuld use a voidfamily-facebased to cut of all of the seperate beams, but then the arrayfucntion doesn't work anymore.

So to sum it up, I wish I would know how to create a family, which I can stretch upwards and which than makes extra beams, control the distance between the individual beams and cuts of the sides (slanted) of the beams in an angle which I can also control.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you in advance for your expertise!!
    Greets,
    Björn

Have you tried cutting the beams back to a reference plane?

      Hello Bjornschoeberichts,

I created this door over a year ago but I think it does what you are trying to do. I used a face based family to cut a nested array family. Based on what you said it sounds like you tried to cut the array within the family you created it. Save the array as its own family and nest it in as well.

Feel free to download my door and pull it apart to see how I created it.
