    Open file command immobilizes Revit

Ok guys, here is a tough one (I hope not).

Recently I cant open a file the usual way, buy clicking on open button or any other analog command.
When I do, Revit blocks and the only way to shut it down is via Task Manager.

Please look at the provided screencast for further clarification.

The only way of opening a file is drag&drop the file on the Revit shortcut icon.

Again the screencast is provided to clarify.

    Anyone with a suggestion?

You may have something floating around in your Recent Files that's pointing to a location that's no longer there.
Try editing your Revit.INI and blanking out the entries in the [Recent Files] section

Ok, so the issue is back. Thought it is just a matter of repeating the procedure since it worked the first time.

        Well... Boy was I surprised.

        Any other thoughts?

We had this issue with a conflict between Revit Architecture 2014 and the latest version of BlueBeam. It seemed related to incompatible versions of .Net
The worst part of this issue, is that it affected all versions of Revit and AutoCAD using the File Open dialog.

did not find a solution, and ended up uninstalling Revit Architecture 2014.

            Our Knowledge Base entry:

When trying to open a file in Revit, AutoCAD, etc. the cursor spins and the application becomes unresponsive. In other words, the File Open dialog does not open.

It has been reported that installing the latest DropBox may cause this issue: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppo...ing-files.html

The solution is to repair .NET (e.g. .NET 4.6.2) and reboot the computer.

This issue may also affect other programs dependent on the .NET File Open dialog box.

No need for reinstall. I have figured it out! Hold on to your seats for this one:

The open window is on my other monitor!

I'm using a laptop, and I extended the PC screen to a bigger monitor at home a wile ago. I don't use this feature every day since I travel often.
The Open window stayed on my monitor at home! Yesterday I hit open on accident and it showed up on my other screen. Moved it back, and it runs fine now.

Seen some crazy things working in Revit, but this one has to be one of my favorites.
