You might want to edit the label and add the OOTB parameter to it. If you can't, open the Family, create a new Shared Parameter, have it reference the OOTB parameter and add that to the Label.

If you can't get it to work I'd suggest you upload the family and label so we can take a stab at it.

Hi Fritz, and welcome to the forum.

You´ll need to bypass the hardcoded "Elevation" parameter, and instead create your own "Mounting Height" parameter as a shared parameter. In the family, you´ll need to setup a couple of ref. planes to define the "Mounting Height" and add a label to it. Create a tag that reads the "Mounting Height" shared parameter, and you´re all done.

Actually, just take a look at the attached family, which is something that I worked on years back, but abandoned because connectors cant be nested thru....

Tag - not Generic Annotation

OkeyDokey, I really appreciate your help - I was able to solve the problem, though in a way that is less elegant than I'd hoped - but hey, I guess you can only justify so much R&D time spent on an electrical outlet note!

I'd hoped to build the mounting-height-reading shared param into the electrical fixture family. Idea was, create the outlet Family with a Generic Annotation that incorporates a Label; have this Label read the Shared Parameter File for something like a "mounting height" param. However, I just can't get the Label, internal to the Generic Annotation in the Family, to read the Shared Parameter File.

Sigh.

So, next best thing: create a custom Tag, as Mumkholm suggests above, built it to read the Shared Parameter File, and tag the elements in a Project on a case-by-case basis.

Actually, maybe not so bad: I don't want every last electrical outlet tagged, so I had planned to build a display on/off switch for the mounting-height parameter into the Generic Annotation. Now, only tag what you want...
