    Structural Column Preview not working!

Good Morning/Afternoon Evening however this finds you!

I have an issue where I am placing columns the preview on the mouse cursor is not visible.

I have narrowed the error down to the fact that my project base point is a few meters below the level I am trying to place the column at.

I have an existing building with a project datum of 29.515m AOD
Ground Structural Slab Level is another 22.054m above this again and my works starts on 6th Floor.

So all in my first column will be placed 42.597m above the Project Base Point.

In Capture 1 attachment you can see the error.

    Please see the link aswell:

Revit OpEd: Structural Column Preview does not Show

it appears that the error has occurred for others and for some reason not addressed by AutoDesk yet.

I will try any suggestions to see if we can get around this.

    Thanks in advance!

    James

    UPDATE:

    My current fix is to

    1. Open the model
    2. Place a column on a level @ 0,00 (Project Base Point)
    3. Open 6th Floor
    4. Place a column (Outline not shown)
    5. then the outline becomes visible

Steps 1 & 2 & needs to be done every time the model is closed and opened
Steps 4 & 5 needs to be repeated per level!

    Hi

I'm having the same issue but with architectural columns. Your fix doesn't seem to be working. Could you offer some more info of when needs to be done between 4 and 5? Much appreciated!

      Good Morning Schiette,

Sorry for the late response. I have just tried this same method on REVIT 2016 where the error happens (2017 this error seems to have been fixed) using an Architectural Column.

If you are using 2016 make sure that you are placing a column to reset the error at your project basepoint. i tend to leave the survey at 0.00 and if the project I am working on required a different datum then my project base point is moved.

If you are stuck i would try the following:

      1. Close and Re-Open Revit (I am sure this is not essential but lets do it for arguments sake.)
      2. Place the architectural column on the level you intend to model (to check the error occurs)
      3. Once confirmed that the outline is not showing up, open a level that is at 0,0 or at project base point and place the architectural column on this level (delete after)

      4. Go back to the original level and place another column - the outline wont show up but if you place one the next outline should appear.

Steps 1 & 2 & 3 needs to be done every time the model is closed and opened
