    Underlay. Having difficulty

Hi, Im fairly new to Revit, about 6 months, and Im having problems with underlay.
Im modeling a 2 story house and I cant seem to get level 1 to show as an underlay while Im in level 2. BUT I can get foundation level to show in level 2 as well as in level 1.
    Im so frustrated!
    What am i doing wrong?

have a look at your view range settings, you will need to adjust the depth to see what is underneath your current level.

see this image for a good explanation on view range (for plan views looking down)

      Thank you!
I tried adjusting the depth to a level below level 1 and that doesnt help. What level should I be setting the view depth so that I can see level1 as an underlay while working in level 2?
      Thank you

no matter what I do in view range it doesn't help.
What type of setting in view range should I do for level 2 so that I can see level 1 as an underlay??

What version of Revit are you using? Do you have any levels between level 1 and level 2? Underlays before I think 2016R2 didn't care about the view depth settings, they just go level to level and if you have some levels close together that results in a very limited underlay. I think they added some more controls since then, but my office is slow to upgrade so we're still mostly in 2015 over here, so I haven't had much of a chance to play with the new features.

When Im in level 2 ALL the view range settings are set to the default revit settings: associated level - level 2, with the top offset set to 7' 6", the cut plane set to 4' 0", and everything else set ro 0' 0".
I was under to impression that underlay has nothing to do with view range.
Why cant i get level 1 to show as an underlay in level 2, but i can get the foundation level to show in level 2 with the same view range settings??
              Im using revit 2016

set the bottom pull down to the level below and the cut line alittle above the second floor level everything below the cut line will appear dashed

is this what you are trying to achieve with the items on the first floor showing dashed and the things on the second floor showing as solid.
