Thank you! I am a "new user" [MEP2010] attempting to teach myself Revit while not having been given much time to do so ... had training more than a year ago, but hadn't actually used Revit until about a week ago. Now trying to create a "drawing set" similar to what we have made in AutoCAD in the past.

Hmm... first advice: the less you refer back to the way things were done in AutoCAD, the better for you.

Sometimes we have no choice but to refer to the way things were done in AutoCAD. My firm has been around since BEFORE AutoCAD, and there are certain things that must look like they have always looked or function the way they always have. Sometimes I just have to revert back to AutoCAD. I hate that though. I wish I had more time to learn Revit and properly switch things over.

Thanks - tried this, but the sheet that I wanted to "copy" did not appear as one of the choices! Then, when I just chose another sheet for the heck of it, Revit told me "could not import file..." (or something like that).

Exactly! ... can I just CopyClip and PasteClip from one project to another?

The (1) method I tried so far, from suggestions I got here - the Insert from File - did not work! I don't get it - why do OTHER sheets, but not the sheet I want to copy, appear in the "choices" dialog box? And why doesn't one of the "choosable" sheets work either? Very frustrating...

There are certainly things that- if they are present on a sheet- it will not let you "Insert from file." As youve discovered, "live views" are one of these things. If you "save out" live views, it brings chunks of the model with it, which isnt what you want. The sheets that are showing up (which arent the ones you want) probably dont have live views on them. Insert from file works great for standard details.

Also, if its available in the list, but says "Cannot insert from file," this generally means there is a definition of something in that file making your project *unhappy.* Are any of the details exploded CAD details? If so- because of the way CAD stuff gets stored under Imported objects- its very easy for block.dwg definitions to conflict with one another, and Revit will freak out. Same thing if you have a detail component in each file, but in one of them the definition is rotated 90 degrees, as this jacks with dimensions.

Revit is way faster at a lot of things. Making sheets isnt one of them. There is no "grabbing a layout tab, and hitting copy." You take the bad with the great.

That's the thing when processes go through revolutionary change....they DON'T have to look or function like they always have. You have an opportunity to do things better, more efficiently, to change the process. We did things a certain way in drafting or in CAD because that's what the tools afforded us. You have a new tool now...don't be afraid to change the status quo!
