No such thing as column based family template. Use face based. Depending on the data you need to read and how you need it displayed, would determine how you build this family and whether it should be nested in the column family or loaded separately into the project.
Need more info on what you are trying to achieve.

Opening Post - If your meaning you want Family that Acts like a Column, but is a Generic Model Category, then yes you can do that (we have done this for Downpipes)
Open up the Column Family, and then change the Family Category (The Yellow Icon) to whichever you want.

If your meaning a Family that Stick to a Column (Column Hosted) then I agree with Elton

Actually I want to make corbel and that should read column Size and according to that it should behave.
Currently I am using face based family.
as per your comment "No such thing as column based family template" then I got my answer.
