Discipline view and non-bearing walls
I've come to accept that non-bearing walls will not show up when I'm in my Structural Discipline. Communication with the architects about which walls need to be bearing takes place and I can get the correct walls to show. We've learned to switch to Coordination Discipline if we need to (temporarily) see where the architects have placed their non-bearing walls.
When I was working in RST2011, I had one project that had the non-bearing walls show up even if I was in Structural Discipline. Until I could figure that one out, I created a filter to hide any non-bearing walls the architects had put in. (It turned out that the Architects had placed the walls with an unconnected height. Once they "connected" their walls at the top, my Structural/Coordination Discipline views worked as expected.)
I've come across a project file that's not working as expected, and I'm not able to get filters to work, either.
This project is in RST2012. I have two architectural files (existing and new) files linked into my structural file. It doesn't matter if my Discipline is set to Structural or Coordination, all the non-bearing walls are showing. The architect's walls along the exterior of the building have a family type name that has the word "Exterior" in it so I tried to create a filter to turn off the interior walls. (see attached.)
In VG, the Display Settings for the linked models are set to "Custom," and all walls are turned on in both linked models as well as my Structural model. On the Filters tab, I've added my "Interior Walls" filter and turned off the visiblilty. All of the walls still show.
I created a new project using the OOTB template and linked the architectural model to it. I created a new level for the roof and went to the roof plan. I did the same process and was able to get the "Interior Walls" filter to work in the new project. So I believe I'm using the correct process. I wonder if my engineer (who created this project) got this particular Roof level from our analysis program, RAM, and not from native Revit. Hmmm...
So, where can I see the view properties that changing the Discipline puts into place? I think there may be something screwy there.
update 8/4/2011: The filter I created works in every other view except my Roof Plan view. The engineer created the Roof Level in Revit before he began his RAM analysis.
Still wondering why my filter does not work in this plan...
