Piping system as Pipe fitting family-s

    Hello,

I´m really confused here with a pipe template that I have received and not sure if I´m the idiot or those families have something wrong with them. If you open this Valsir HDPE template: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3604509/Ultraflow/Template/ValsirRainplusTemplate_151009.rte then you can see that every single element of the pipe system (pipe fittings, pipes, reducers, elbows, 45 degree bends etc etc) has been defined as a Revit Pipe Fitting family. And I see if I put the together manually they will attach to each other and so on, but in order to use them efficiently I´d need to add them to pipe routing preferences. But I have had no luck in that department yet.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge how to work with this template?

Never used it, though I have often considered making straight lengths of pipe/duct as pipe/duct fittings. I thought an advantage would be as you stated, being able to quickly snap together each piece. However, it is easy to see that the loss of routing preferences could be troublesome for a few people.

You could create a new pipe system and simply assign the fittings to the routing preferences, perhaps you could assign the straight length as a coupling, I don't think the result would be useful though.

If it were me I'd just grab the fittings I need, drop the straights, and make a new system. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.
