Import detected no valid elements in the file's Model space

I'm a bit baffled by why these CAD files will not import to Revit 2016. They were exported from CAD MEP, but contain native AutoCAD lines, circles, and polylines.

    same - odd.
I cut and paste all the modelspace elements into a new autocad file and tried that - worked as expected

This happens when the DWG file format is later than the RVT file format (for example, 2108 DWG will not link into 2016 RVT). The solution is to save the DWG as 2013 DWG).

Pretty sure we've had this even going 2019dwg to 2019revit? in any case, cleaning up the file and saving as a 2013dwg is our default for linking in dwgs.
