Room aware family - no "room: area" field available in schedule?

    Room aware family - no "room: area" field available in schedule?

    Hi there,
    I have a room aware family (generic model) that sits inside a room to read all the information that room provides to inform the location of my family.
    I am trying to get the room area information into the generic model schedule of that family. Most of the room parameters are available to select but there is no "Room area" available to add as a field???
    I have a workaround to create a calculated field - using the room volume and divide this by room height (available from the room fields) to calculate the area.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction what i am doing wrong and why there is no area field available for the room that contains the Generic model room aware family??

    Why use a family to schedule information that belongs to a room instead of a room schedule?

      We are testing Revit for a masterplanning exercise and we have generic families representing different house types and rooms representing plots on site.
      In one single schedule we wanted to combine the information from both sources
      Ie. House layout type, number of bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. from the House type family, and information about the plot (Plot area, rear garden area, Plot number, etc) from the room.

      Most of the room parameters (even our custom made shared params) are available as fields to choose into our generic family schedule from the room but the room area (system paramater) is for some reason missing... not sure why as the other parameters can be used to calculate it so why not have it there in the first place...?

        In Revit 2016 there are Global Parameters--not sure if that would help?

          If you create a Room Schedule you can include an Embedded Schedule assigned to Generic Models which will let you summarize the data associated with your family alongside the room (lot) data.
