Where are you looking for the family once you load it?

Not sure what you mean by "nothing happened". Pardon me if this sounds silly, but you checked your loaded Families to see if "the object" got loaded into project?

whats the family type you are loading? some things, doors and windows for example, do not show up in the "generic" load family option...they only show when youa re in the door or window tool. Also look in the browser under families to see if it loaded. you can drag and drop from the browser as well.

"Load Family into Project" does exactly what it says.
It loads the family. The Load tool does not place the family. It just makes it availabe to be placed.
After the Load, you then need to go to the appropriate tool (Door, Window, or Component) to place an instance of that family.
