    Railing

Is there a way to extend top rail only flush with the end posts (to the ref plaines on elev. view)? Thx.

I think there is an offset in the railing command. Look under Rail Structure.

Thanks Dan, but that offset is doing something else. Unfortunately it doesn't make the rail any longer or shorter.

Okay, wrong one. Look under balasters placement. Posts section (at the bottom). Start post and end post space.

You have to change the offset of the ballusters....bummer part is you have to have to create two different types of ballusters to make this work as offset is left and right and not start to finish....so you would have to change the location of the balluster in regards to the origin.

If you really need to show it extend out, model it as a family or just use a masking region in elevations....

          Okay....ignore what I just said....

I've tried that one already - not working either . I'm ending up with those funny looking rail ends (pic.- rail 1). I don't think any of those options/adjustments will work for me. I was hoping for some kind of trick or work-around to make this happen.

That would work  (pic.- rail 2). Top rail is a separate piece. However, it's double work that way. I wonder if the top rail could be attached to lower part (...like stacked wall, for example), but at the same time to be able to adjust its length.

This may not help you, but take a look at this thread. I created a fence using the railing tool. You may be able to get some tips from here.

                Interesting.

Eventually, I used two different rails. Double work, but it wasn't so bad.
                Thanks guys

No problem. Is it weird that every time I see you've posted something, I want a beer??
