Wall Join With Different Materials

    Wall Join With Different Materials

    I have a column made up of stone and brick. Where two walls with different materials miter, there is a line.
    What tells Revit where to put that line? In the attachment, I need to have the line appear where the blue line is, and not where the yellow highlighted line currently is.

    Is there any way to do this?

    I would do this manually, pull back both of the walls, grab vertical and pull it where it has to be(till the end), as you shown on picture. then join horizontal one to the vertical.
    On plans ,wall joins function helps in this situation. But in family id go my 1st decision making it manually

      Try this tool:

      .Carl - Architect, BIM Manager, Father, Husband, Coach, Player, Disc Tosser, Driver... not necessarily in that order.

          Thanks for the tip. I had to pull them both back, then disallow join for the horizontal one. Align them, then join them. Now the line is where it should be. Only 19 more to do. :laugh: What a pain.

            On my screen there is an image showing the Wall Join tool. It's to the left of the Move tool when you select the wall.

              Yeah, that's the first one I tried. It doesn't work. I need it to be a butt joint, which is selected. It won't cycle between the vertical and horizontal though.

              Here's another question:
              I have a brick wall with studs in the core. No biggie.
              However, I also have a brick column. No studs. Just a layer of brick.

              How can I create a brick column wall with no core? Or can I put a dummy layer for the core, like thermal, and set it's thickness to 0?

              The reason is the brick column 90's into the brick stud wall and the brick column is going throug to the core of the stud wall, instead of mitering at the brick.

                  That happens sometimes, but usually with more complex joins. My guess would be that somewhere outside of your field of view another component is messing up your join. Is there a beam attached? Floor which you're joined with? Something like that is probably up...

                  You can't put in a layer in the core that small. Has to be a few mm thick.
                  To solve your problem you either need to put the outer brick layer of the stud into the core, or create a custom column...

                    Okay, that's two for a custom column. How do I do that and still make it a wall family? I thought you couldn't create system families.
